Raising Spiritual Children not only brings out all the important components of spiritual and prophetic living, but they are presented in a way that will help you tangibly apply them to your family today. Although this book was written for parents, I think it has a broader application for grandparents, teachers, and mentors as well. I have known Greg and Patty and their family for over twenty years, including a number of years when Greg was on my staff. They are excellent people who seek to fully walk out in their personal life and family what they teach. In addition to all of their leadership and experiences, the lives of their children are testimony enough to recommend this book.

Raising Spiritual Children is a beautifully written book that fills a massive gap. I don't know of anyone else who has done what Patty Mapes has achieved here in providing a genuinely charismatic approach to parenting. This is a rare gift to the Body of Christ in general and to Christian families in particular. No parent can afford to be without this practical and prophetic resource. It will empower parents to draw out and cultivate the spiritual gifts that the Perfect Parent, Abba Father, has given to every Christian child. I wish I had read something like this twenty years ago, before the birth of the first of our four children!

Patricia and Greg Mapes have an important message for parents today with their singular focus on how to develop and protect our spiritually attuned children as they grow. They build on a firm foundation of character development first, and then give us specifics we need to guide us through the common pitfalls usually seen as we try to raise spiritually gifted children.

They draw from their extensive ministry experience as well as their parenting experiences while raising four children, all now grown. They truly give us a fresh and challenging look at this formidable task.

As a licensed clinical psychologist for thirty-seven years, I find their work especially informative and a fun read. Much of the content addresses issues that have been traditionally in the psychological arena, but they add the supernatural to it, bringing together insights on handling the realm of dreams as well as nightmares and night terrors. It is a must-read for parents who know they have spiritually gifted children and have given up searching for any help in this arena.

Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to train up a child in the way he should go, and then when he is old, he will not depart from it. What exactly does that actually mean from a biblical standpoint? For some parents, it simply means trying to impart knowledge of right versus wrong. God, however, as the ultimate Father, is much more thorough and complete in how He wonderfully creates each of us to walk through life in a unique way with unique gifting.

Few parenting books really delve into truly understanding the art of training children to know the Person of God, His ways, and the particulars of His gifting and calling on their lives. Patty and Greg are to be greatly commended for writing Raising Spiritual Children, especially as it has not come out of mere theory but authenticity and fruitful experience. I believe Raising Spiritual Children will prove to be a huge help in raising up children to be men and women who will both lead fruitful lives and impact their times and cultures with the kingdom of God.

Patty and Greg demonstrate a true understanding of how to raise kids to know God first and then to impact the world out of that relationship. I think this book is vital for parents who want to empower their kids to be godly and then, out of knowing God, to change the world, instead of raising them only to behave well and have accomplishments that fall apart without relationship.
